Meet the Whitby Town Deal Board voting and advisory members.

Voting members

Chair: Barry Harland

Head of Responsible Business, Whitby Seafoods 

Whitby Seafoods is one of the biggest employers within the Whitby area. Barry has worked for the company for 6years and has extensive experience of working in the food industry and operations management. 

Vice Chair: Matt Parsons

Head of Social Performance, Anglo American Crop Nutrients

Matt started is responsible for Anglo American Crop Nutrient’s social performance, leading on stakeholder relations and social and economic development. Prior to this, Matt worked in economic development in the public sector for twelve years, developing and managing projects focused on skills and enterprise, having started his career in the housing sector.

Rt. Hon. Alison Hume MP

Alison is the MP for the Scarborough and Whitby constituency.

Richard Flinton

Chief Executive, North Yorkshire Council

Richard has worked for North Yorkshire Council for over 30 years and over 10 years of which have been as Chief Executive. Richard was born in North Yorkshire and attended school and college in Scarborough.

Rosemary Du-Rose

Chief Executive, Beyond Housing

Beyond Housing is the Borough’s largest RSL and serves customers in more than 15,000 homes in the North East and North Yorkshire. Rosemary has been the Chief Executive since the organisation formed in 2018 and has a career background in retail, insurance and telecoms.

Paul Fellows

Head of Strategic Policy, North York Moors National Park Authority

The North York Moors National Park Authority (NYMNPA) looks after the large area of the North York Moors, helping to protect and conserve it, while encouraging people to enjoy and understand how special it is. Paul is the Head of Strategic Policy including the Local Plan.

Councillor Linda Wild

Community representative, Whitby Town Council

Whitby Town Council consists of 19 elected members who strive to make Whitby a better place to live, work and play. Councillor Wild lives on the east side of Whitby and is the current Whitby community representative.

Sandra Turner

Community Representative

Sandra has worked with the community for many years both as a councillor and a director of the local community hub, always having lived in Whitby she brings forward the views of local people to board meetings.

Joe Redfern

Community Member

Joe has been instrumental in setting up the Whitby Lobster Hatchery and Marine Discovery Centre. Having worked as a fisherman and within the Whitby Fishing community he is well connected to the harbour. Joe also sits on the town council.

Capt. Steve Upright

Community Representative.

Stephen served for 33 years in the Royal Navy in command of operational submarines and in delivery of submarine training. After retirement from the Royal Navy he worked as Chief Executive of the York Merchant Adventurers Company for 10 years.

Cllr. Mark Crane

Executive member for Open for Business

Mark worked for Customs for 38 years, now retired and was Leader of Selby DC for 20 years, Mark has been a Cllr for 25 years.
