The audit seeks to develop local standards for the provision of green space, identify areas of surplus or deficit and, wherever possible, make recommendations as to how provision can be improved.
The audit has been undertaken to form part of the evidence base for the new Scarborough borough local plan. It is intended that the audit will inform the production of planning policies within the Local Plan, which will in turn be used in the determination of planning applications. It will also be used as the basis for ensuring that green spaces are provided alongside new housing development, either through providing additional facilities within the development itself or by making financial contributions to invest in and improve existing facilities.
The precise approach to securing green space provision through new development will be set out within a relevant supplementary planning document that will reflect the findings of this green space audit.
