Protecting Dark Skies in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: Adoption Statement

In accordance with the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012, notice is hereby given that North Yorkshire Council adopted the Protecting Dark Skies in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) (May 2024) on the 7 May 2024.

The supplementary planning document provides additional background, help and guidance in relation to Policy GS6 Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of the adopted Harrogate District Local Plan 2014-2035, to provide help and guidance for projects involving external lighting in the AONB. It contains information on dark skies and light pollution and provides practical advice about the design of lighting schemes and the choice of appropriate lighting technology so that everyone can play a part in reducing light pollution and protecting AONB’s dark skies.

Any person aggrieved by the adoption of the supplementary planning document may apply to the High Court for permission to apply for judicial review of that decision. Any such application must be made promptly and, in any event, not later than three months after the date on which the supplementary planning document was adopted.

The adoption of the Protecting Dark Skies in the Nidderdale AONB supplementary planning document is pursuant to section 23(1) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and Regulation 14 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012.
