Household support fund privacy notice

This privacy notice is designed to help you understand how and why North Yorkshire Council processes your personal data in relation to allocating funding from the Household Support Fund (HSF). This notice should be read in conjunction with our corporate privacy notice.

Who are we?

North Yorkshire Council is a ‘Data Controller’ as defined by Article 4(7) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). North Yorkshire Council has been allocated funding from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to provide crisis support to vulnerable households in most need of support, and to help with significantly rising living costs over the next 6 months.

Welfare and Benefits are seeking to identify households who are eligible to receive this funding.

Personal information we collect

In order to identify eligible households and distribute the allocated funding, we need to collect the following personal data:

  • name
  • address
  • date of birth
  • national insurance number
  • eligibility assessment criteria (in receipt of maximum Council Tax Reduction)

Why we collect personal information

We collect your data for the following purposes:

  • to inform eligible households of the available funding
  • to validate claims for the funding
  • to allocate and distribute the funding
  • to provide management information to the Department of Work and Pensions on how the funding was allocated and spent

Who do we share this information with?

Within North Yorkshire Council, data is shared with teams who are responsible for distributing the funding under the scheme.

Externally we share your data with:

  • Department of Work and Pensions (to provide management information on use of the fund);

Where it is suspected that fraudulent activity has taken place, the law requires us to share this information with relevant parties in order to investigate whether a crime has been committed.

Sharing personal information 

Within North Yorkshire Council, data is shared with teams who are responsible for distributing the funding under the scheme:

  • Revenue and Benefits

Externally we share your data with:

  • Department of Work and Pensions if required (to provide management information on use of the fund).

How long do we keep your information for?

We only hold your personal data for as long as is necessary to carry out our duties with respect to this processing.

Retention period: For as long as is necessary to assess eligibility and distribute the funding (no later than 31/03/2026)
