A dance company will perform near the historic Selby Abbey as part of a programme of free events for a scheme aimed at promoting arts and culture in North Yorkshire.
The dance and visual arts event is the latest free show that is being organised through the Now Then! project, a £350,000 cultural development programme focused on Selby, Sherburn-in-Elmet and Tadcaster.
Ghetto Fabulous will perform a show, Family Catwalk Extravangza, in Church Walk, close to Selby Abbey, on Saturday, 17 August.
The free event will see four performers go head-to-head in a dance, fashion and lip sync competition where the audience decides the winner.
People can either join in the event by dressing up, helping to crown the winner with their cheering, take to the dance floor themselves or simply watch from the sidelines.
Executive member for culture, Cllr Simon Myers, said: “A huge focus of Now Then! is to provide free, fun events that are open to all. This show is family friendly and celebrates vogue culture and fashion. I am sure it will go down a storm.”
Show times, to tie in with the town’s farmers’ market, will be 11.45am until 12.15pm and 1pm until 1.30pm.
We have been awarded the funding for the Now Then! project by Arts Council England’s Place Partnership fund to deliver the project, which is also funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and North Yorkshire’s Cultural Development Fund.
