Pancake Day Races - 4 March
Scarborough's annual Pancake Day Races will take place in the town centre on Tuesday 4 March. The event kicks off with the town crier introducing the mayor, who then rings the pancake bell on North Street at 12pm. Everyone, including local schools, then head down to Foreshore Road on Scarborough's South Bay for the tradition of skipping by the seaside.
Spring Daze - 9 April
On Wednesday 9 April come along to Peasholm Park in Scarborough for Spring Daze - a fun family event to mark the start of Spring. There’ll be a spring-themed woodland trail, storytelling, nature crafts, music and face painting. You can also take a look at the local food, charity and sweet stalls. The event is open from 10am to 4pm and is free to attend.
Filey Food Festival - April, June, August and October
Visit Filey Food Festival to sample the very best of Yorkshire food and drink as well as fantastic produce from outside the region. The event takes place four times a year: 19 and 20 April, 7 and 8 June, 9 and 10 August, 11 and 12 October.
There are a variety of stalls offering fresh lobster, crab or caviar served with prosecco, locally made cheese, gourmet Scotch eggs, home-made cakes, curry sauces, chutneys and jams, artisan chocolates and more. There’s also street food representing countries across the globe including Greece, Thailand, Italy, Germany, South Africa and the Caribbean. There’s a Yorkshire real ale bar with seating at Crescent Gardens with many stalls offering a variety of wine, gin, vodka and rum. The festival is open Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free.
Scarborough Food and Drink Festival - 12 and 13 April
This vibrant new festival, taking place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April, offers a mouth-watering selection of tempting foods and delicious drinks. From gourmet delicacies to refreshing beverages, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Plus, with a variety of thrilling fairground rides, it's the ideal family outing for children of all ages. Come along to Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre for a fun-filled festival.
Armed Forces Day - 28 June
Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday 28 June. It is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving personnel to service families, veterans and cadets. A fantastic family day out - there’s a packed programme of incredible flying displays in the skies plus military parades, stands, military vehicles, demonstrations and children’s activities taking place. Goldwing Light Parade and Fireworks Display - 6 September
Taking place on 6 September, the glittering Goldwing Light Parade and Fireworks Display has become a popular tradition for Scarborough, bringing thousands of bike fans from around the UK to the South Bay for a free seafront party every September. Goldwing motorcycles sporting neon lights transport a fleet of riders on a procession around the Marine Drive, illuminating both sides of the shoreline, before the night finishes with a show-stopping fireworks display.
Filey Kite Festival - 20 and 21 September
The spectacular Filey Kite Festival takes place on 20 and 21 September which showcases some of the world’s largest and most colourful kites. The skies over Filey Brigg are transformed into a canvas of vibrant kites, which in previous years has included designs depicting clownfish, huge pandas, snakes and even giant octopuses! There are also food and drink stalls and children’s rides. Free to attend.
Scarborough Surf Festival - 27 September
Taking place on 27 September, this is a fun day for everyone from experienced surfers to those who have never set foot on a surfboard. The festival takes place between 10am and 4pm in the North Bay. There’ll be surf competitions, taster sessions, colourful displays of vintage VW campers and Beetles lining the promenade, plus food and drink stalls to enjoy.
Moonlight on the Lake - 24 and 25 October
On 24 and 25 October, this is a magical evening under the stars by the shimmering lake in Peasholm Park, Scarborough. Staged by Animated Objects and the council, this is an opportunity for people to come and explore the park as the night draws in. There’ll be illuminated lanterns and dragon boats with the park’s oriental-themed island painted in colourful lights to create magical reflections in the water as visitors make their way around the lake.
Autumn Daze - 29 October
Taking place on 29 October, Autumn Daze takes place in Peasholm Park in Scarborough. There’ll be a whole range of free, autumn themed activities set against the colourful seasonal backdrop of the park’s woodland. From bush craft demonstrations to storytelling, marshmallow toasting to primitive fire building and craft activities to a scavenger hunt, this is a family friendly, adventurous day out.
Scarborough Sparkle - 28 to 30 November
This three-day event takes place on 28, 29 and 30 November. Scarborough Sparkle is a magical and enchanting Christmas wonderland taking place at the Open Air Theatre. The event is free to attend. There’ll be the annual lantern parade created by local community groups as well as stalls offering crafts, gifts, hot food and drinks. If that isn’t enough there’ll be a tipi bar, where you can listen to music and toast marshmallows, as well as a stage hosted by This is the Coast local radio station, featuring local choirs and competition giveaways. There’ll also be fun fair rides, music, a snow machine, Christmas tree, Santa sleigh and appearances from some famous faces including the Grinch.
