Sheltered and independent housing in Selby

We offer a number of services to help you stay in your home, as well as alternative accommodation options designed to make life a little easier or more secure.

Sheltered accommodation

Sheltered accommodation is designed to help you live an independent life.

We have two schemes in the Selby locality:

  • Laurie Backhouse Court, Selby
  • St. Wilfrids Court, Brayton

All of our sheltered accommodation is linked to our lifeline service. The purpose of this service is to enable you to summon assistance in the case of emergency. The service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

There are also two extra care housing schemes in the Selby locality, managed by Hanover Housing Association:

  • Popplewell Springs, Tadcaster
  • Fernbank Court, Brayton

Extra care housing have staff on site and facilities such as hairdressers and a café. The housing gives residents the opportunity to live independently with the reassurance that help is at hand when they need it.

Lifeline service

Our lifeline service is available for any tenant, or resident, who is elderly, has a disability, or who is vulnerable regardless of age. The service gives you peace of mind knowing that help is there whenever you need it, 24 hours a day.

It can help you if:

  • you live by yourself but need extra help
  • you want reassurance that help is close by
  • you think you are at risk of domestic violence, harassment or rogue traders

It can also help your family:

  • if they need support to help you maintain your independence, or if they live too far away from you to provide the regular help you need
  • to have peace of mind that you get 24 hour support when you need it

How does the service work?

1.    Your needs are assessed and the lifeline equipment is provided, including an emergency pendant.

2.    In an emergency, you activate the alarm on the pendant.

3.    The service call centre is alerted and decides on the appropriate response.

4.    Help is on its way to you.
