Find out about SEND provision for children and young people in North Yorkshire schools.
Most children's needs can be met in a mainstream school or enhanced mainstream provision. This means that children can go to school in their community.
If a child or young person's need cannot be met in a mainstream school or setting with the involvement of the SEND hubs, they may require a special school place. Except in very rare circumstances, special schools take pupils with an education, health and care plan (EHCP).
There are seven maintained special schools and three special academies in North Yorkshire. You can find and compare schools near you here. You can also view details of independent schools for students with special educational needs here, including those approved under section 41 of the Children and Families Act.

Locality Boards are a dynamic collaboration between education leaders and North Yorkshire Council. There are five boards each representing a different area of the county:
Each board shares the aim of maximising outcomes and promoting inclusivity for children and young people aged from 0 to 25 years old.
North Yorkshire Council allocates an annual budget to each board, enabling them to initiate projects tailored to the evolving needs of their communities. To find out more about the boards and the projects on offer, visit the North Yorkshire Locality Board website.
