Details of the price of services by our registration service, including ceremonies and certificates.

Changes to statutory registration fees

Changes to statutory registration fees will be introduced on 28 May 2024 - the fee increases are set nationally by the General Register Office. 

Ceremony fees will not change, except for standard ceremonies.

Prices of the most usual fees charged by the registration service are below. Other fees may apply in special circumstances, such as where one person is housebound, detained or seriously ill. 

All fees include VAT where this applies.

How to pay

  • credit or debit cards: We prefer you to pay by credit or debit card. We do not issue invoices so please do not pay using our automated phone payment system for invoices. 
  • cash: If you wish to pay by cash, please bring the exact money as we cannot guarantee change will be available. 

We cannot accept personal cheques or American Express. 

Certificates

A short birth certificate shows your baby's name, sex and date of birth. A full birth certificate will show the parents' details and will be needed in the future, such as for a passport, opening a bank account or applying for a school place.

Civil marriages and civil partnerships

A £42 statutory notice fee per person is required for all marriage and civil partnership ceremonies in addition to the charges listed below.

A fee of £57 per person (if, as a couple, you are referred to the Home Office, under the referral and investigation scheme) in addition to the charges listed below.

The ceremony date (not the date of the booking) determines the fee. They cover the cost of the registration staff attending your ceremony and one certificate. They are payable in advance when notice is given and no later than three months before the ceremony.

Fees are determined based on where and when your ceremony is held:

  • a £50 deposit is required for all ceremony bookings, which will be deducted from the cost of the ceremony
  • consideration by a superintendent registrar of a divorce / civil partnership dissolution obtained outside of the British Isles - £55
  • consideration by the registrar general of a divorce / civil partnership dissolution obtained outside of the British Isles - £83

Private citizenship ceremonies

The private citizenship ceremony fee is the same as the marriage or civil partnership ceremony fees outlined below. The fee will be waived for members of the armed forces who are unable to attend a group ceremony. 

Approved premises

These fees are charged by the registration service for attendance at ceremonies only. Further costs will be charged by the venue. This includes the cost of one certificate.

Where the renewal or naming ceremony is held immediately after a wedding ceremony, there will be a 30 per cent discount on the fee for the renewal or naming ceremony. 

Conversion of civil partnership to a marriage

Only same-sex couples can change their civil partnership to a marriage, conversions are not currently legally permitted for opposite sex couples. 

The fee excludes the cost of any marriage certificate.

Approved premises licensing fees

The fees include all costs, including advertising. The licence lasts for three years.

The fee includes 10 rooms. Any additional rooms are charged at £155 each.
