About Woodlands Crematorium
Woodlands crematorium opened its doors on the 24 February 1961 and conducts over 1,200 cremations a year. The crematorium grounds and chapel were purpose built, after it was identified there was a need for the area to have its own crematorium.
The crematorium was built on land adjacent to the Row Brow Cemetery, which opened in 1941 and which was renamed as Woodlands Cemetery once the crematorium was built. The facilities within the chapel and cemetery are available for cremation services, burial services and memorial services.
Woodlands Crematorium grounds also contains a small remembrance chapel, which houses the book of remembrance, electronic book of remembrance and a book of condolence.
Crematorium chapel
Our chapel can seat up to 100 people, increasing to 150 with standing and outside speakers, for any additional mourners outside the chapel. For additional capacity the Garden Room can also be used, which has a screen and speakers to watch the service.
The chapel is fully wheelchair accessible and there is an induction loop for the hard of hearing.
Funeral and Memorial Services
Services are available:
- 9:15am to 3pm Monday to Thursday
- 9:15am to 2pm on Friday
The first service, starting at 9:15 is our early morning service which lasts for 30 minutes and is at a reduced fee. Main services are held every hour which provides a 60 minute slot with a 45 minute chapel service.

If you think that a service might take longer, we offer the facility to book two consecutive times. Please contact us for more details.
Music
We can offer families a unique farewell to their loved ones. We operate the highest quality in music systems and the service can be tailored to the individual through our ability to play any piece of music that has been recorded and released by an artist, as well as all traditional hymns.
An organ is also situated within the chapel and your Funeral Director can organise an organist on your behalf should you choose.
Tributes
Many different personal tributes are available in the form of photos, slideshows and exclusive tributes to ensure a personal and individual final farewell, some of which are available as a permanent keepsake.
Webcasts
All services have the option to be screened using a webcast that can also be viewed at a later date, This is to ensure those who live far away or are unable to attend in person have the ability to take part in the service.
