About Skipton Crematorium

Skipton Crematorium opened its doors on the 11 June 1952 and conducts over 1,100 cremations per year. The Crematorium Chapel is the former multi-denominational chapel and was built when the cemetery was opened in 1877.

The crematorium and chapel are situated in the heart of Waltonwrays Cemetery on the outskirts of the picturesque market town of Skipton, gateway to the Dales. The facilities within the chapel and cemetery are available for cremation services, burial services and memorial services.

Funeral and memorial Services

Our services are 40 minutes long. This includes 10 minutes prior to the service start time, to allow mourners to enter and get seated in the chapel, and 10 minutes after the end of the service, to exit the chapel.

There is a further 10 minute period between each service to help maintain the feeling of privacy for mourners. It is possible to book a double service at a small surcharge to give the opportunity for a longer one hour service and more privacy.

Services are available Monday to Friday with the first at 9:10am and the final one at 3pm.

Webcasts

All services have the option to be screened using a webcast that can also be viewed at a later date. This is to ensure those who live far away or are unable to attend in person have the ability to take part in the service.

Music

We can offer families a unique farewell to their loved ones. We operate the highest quality in music systems and the service can be tailored to the individual through our ability to play any piece of music that has been recorded and released by an artist, as well as all traditional hymns.

Tributes

Many different personal tributes are also available in the form of photos, slideshows and exclusive tributes to ensure a personal and individual final farewell, some of which are available as a permanent keepsake.

Parking

The cemetery has a range of parking options within the site, including disabled parking. Overflow parking is available on Carleton Road, on either side of the cemetery entry and exit points.

We are located an approximate 20 minute walk from Skipton Train Station and we are on a regular bus route.

Visitor toilets

There are public toilets, including a disabled toilet and baby changing facilities, located within our wonderful Remembrance Chapel, which also offers a unique waiting area.

The building holds our Books of Remembrance, which date back to the opening of the crematorium, together with various other memorialisation options.

Memorials

We offer a wide range of memorial options which are a lovely way to remember a loved one for many years.
