We offer free collections of clinical waste from domestic properties in the former Selby District Council area.

Clinical waste includes:

  • syringes, needles and other sharp instruments
  • infectious swabs and dressings
  • dialysis products

Your doctor or healthcare professional will tell you if you have clinical waste.

Needles are collected from yellow sharps boxes and other waste from yellow medical waste sacks.

Non-hazardous medical waste includes:

  • incontinence pads
  • empty catheter and stoma bags
  • non-infectious wound dressings
  • soiled bedding
  • nappies
  • sanitary waste
  • plasters
  • nasal and respiratory secretions
  • condoms
  • PEG tubes and stomach-feeding equipment

Non-hazardous medical waste must be bagged and put into your grey refuse bin.

You can ask us for a bigger bin if you produce large amounts of this waste.

We cannot collect clinical or medical waste from businesses including residential and nursing homes.

Collections take place every four weeks on a Friday. We usually need 3 working days’ notice to arrange a collection.
