Technology to help you stay in your home

Find out how technology devices can offer extra support to help keep you safe and living independently at home.

Specialist technology led equipment (assistive technology) can be tailored to your needs to monitor and manage everyday activities, helping you maintain independence and keep you safe in your home.

Our assistive technology services

We will refer you to local lifeline services who provide the assistive technology services on our behalf. These services use a wide range of remote equipment that can be linked to a monitoring centre, to family and friends, or to other technology devices in your home.

You can use one of these services on a short-term basis, for example to help you after leaving hospital. These services also provide longer term support.

How assistive technology works in the home

Assistive technology:

  • works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • provides responsive alerts or calls when equipment is activated, for example if you have fallen or because you have pressed an alarm button
  • in most cases sends an alert to a monitoring centre which is manned by dedicated trained operators

These operators will:

  • talk to you to identify the most appropriate course of action
  • have all your contact details
  • know who to call in an emergency
Request help and support

We will first need to assess your needs to find out which solutions might be best for you. Let us know about your needs by requesting support from our adult social care team.

If you already have a social care worker, please contact them to discuss how to access our assistive technology services.

Waiting for an assessment

We are experiencing high levels of demand, which means we may not be able to arrange an assessment as quickly as we would like. If you have contacted us and are waiting for a response, please be assured that we have received your information and will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

Paying for assistive technology services

There is a cost for using our assistive technology services.

You may be eligible for financial support from us to help pay for these services. How much support you receive will depend on the amount of savings and / or financial assets that you have. You will therefore need to complete a financial assessment.

Visit our paying for care page for further information.

Pay privately

You can choose to pay privately for assistive technology services instead of using our commissioned service. This includes buying assistive technology equipment which can alert family, friends and / or carers when you need help.

To arrange this, call 01904 221473 and select option two.

Other local private assistive technology providers

There are also other options available in your local area that you can privately pay for. Use our lookup tool below to find out about these services:

If you choose to go with an alternative provider, you will not be eligible for a financial assessment to potentially help with the cost of your assistive technology service. However, you may be eligible for a direct payment to support you with the cost of assistive technology.
