Find out about living in a care home or nursing home in North Yorkshire.
Residential and nursing homes both provide accommodation, care and support for people when it is no longer safe or appropriate for them to live in their own homes. This can either be on a short-term basis or longer term.
Whilst some homes provide a wide range of services, others offer services for those with specific support needs or health conditions, or are age-specific.
All residential and nursing care homes must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to make sure they provide safe, effective, and high quality care that meets regulatory standards. You can check a home’s inspection report on the Care Quality Commission website.
Residential care homes typically provide:
They do not however provide medical care on site.
As nursing homes are suitable for those that have nursing care needs, you will first need to have an assessment to identify that you have these needs and require this type of care.
As well as providing the services that are listed in the residential care homes section above, they also offer on-site medical and nursing services. They have qualified nurses available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to offer medical care.
For people who have their care and support funded and / or arranged by us, we have an approved provider list for residential care and nursing homes. We will use this provider list to identify a suitable service that is best matched to meet a person’s care and support needs, whilst making sure the service offers the best value for money.
We run seven residential elderly persons homes. You could consider moving into one of our homes on a short-term basis or for a longer term arrangement.
For more information view our elderly persons home page.
There is a cost for using the services of a care or nursing home.
You may be eligible for financial support from us to help pay for your care. You might however have to pay for your own care depending on the amount of savings and / or financial assets that you have.
Visit our paying for care page for further information about a financial assessment and how much you might have to pay towards your care.
