Residents will be able to access the services they need much more easily with a new customer services hub that has opened today in the heart of Northallerton town centre.
We have moved its customer services hub from Stone Cross on Rotary Wary to the Campus Building at Treadmills, on the site of the town’s former prison.
The new development is located in the centre of Northallerton, which supports more people coming into the town centre with knock-on benefits for local businesses.
The central, modern location is the first of its kind within North Yorkshire to be specially designed to provide easier access for vulnerable residents.
It is hoped to better serve customers by offering an easier, more responsive and consistent experience that prioritises accessibility and inclusivity, connecting residents with a range of services both on-site and through video technology.

Council leader, Cllr Carl Les, said: “This new facility is all about putting residents at the heart of our decisions.
“We have worked with a range of partners to ensure its design supports our most vulnerable customers and is accessible for everyone.
“While the council’s website provides a lot of information and options for customers to complete transactions quickly and easily online, we understand some people may prefer to speak to us about an issue in person.
“Our friendly, respectful staff will be on hand to assist and make sure our customers receive the best possible service – and having the hub in a more central and inclusive location should also contribute to economic growth within the town centre.
“It is important that this new space meets the standards that our customers rightly expect and deserve, and we welcome residents’ feedback to help inform how we deliver services in hubs elsewhere across North Yorkshire.”
Among those to be based in the hub each day include representatives from the council’s housing, benefits, social care and customer services teams.
The customer services hub is the latest arrival on the multi-purpose Treadmills site, which is owned by us and has preserved all four listed buildings.
The multi-million pound development already features an Everyman cinema, a number of retail and business units as well as a restaurant complex.
