Housing
In North Yorkshire, housing and homelessness services are provided by the seven borough and district councils that exist within the county and by City of York Council.
Looking for somewhere to stay - North Yorkshire HomeChoice
HomeChoice is North Yorkshire's new way of allocating council and partner housing association properties for rent; and shared ownership properties for sale. The HomeChoice scheme covers all North Yorkshire local authorities except the Harrogate District Council area.
Once registered on the HomeChoice website, applicants are placed in priority bands according to their level of housing need. Available homes are advertised and applicants bid for the home of their choice. If more than one bid is received for a property, a number of tiebreakers are used to decide the successful applicant. For more information and to register see the HomeChoice website.
Please note that HomeChoice is not used to allocate extra care housing. For more information on this, please see the extra care housing page.
Looking for somewhere to stay - Harrogate area
The HomeChoice scheme does not cover the Harrogate area. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the Harrogate area, initial enquiries should be made with Harrogate Borough Council.
