Remedial road repairs in Harrogate and Knaresborough

A programme of remedial works to repair areas of failed resurfacing completed during last winter has been under way in Harrogate and Knaresborough.

A number of sites, including some from the initial extensive repair programme between October 2011 and February 2012, were identified as needing further work.

Aggregate Industries, the contractor for the original works, has been repairing areas of failed surfacing across the towns. The contractor will meet the cost of these repairs in full.

County Councillor Gareth Dadd, executive member for highways, said: "We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding. The county council has worked very closely with the contractor to ensure that disruption during the repair works is kept to a minimum. However, it is crucial that these roads are restored to our expected standard of resurfacing."

County Councillor John Batt, local member for Knaresborough, said: "It is very unfortunate that this work is having to be redone, but we have to make sure that our roads are maintained in the best possible condition. Thankfully, this will not fall on the taxpayer; we have made sure that the cost is met by the contractor who carried out the work in the first place."

A spokesperson for Aggregate Industries said: "We need to revisit works carried out in Harrogate and Knaresborough that have not met our normal high standard. We are pleased to have a good relationship with North Yorkshire County Council and we will be working with them to ensure disruption to commuters is kept to a minimum while the works are taking place. We apologise for all inconvenience caused."

Latest update: 15 October

The resurfacing work along Wetherby Road, Harrogate, which were due to take place on Monday, 3 October, had to be postponed because of poor weather.

The work between Sainsbury's and Rudding Lane is now scheduled to take place on Monday, 29 October, starting at 10pm and going on until the work is complete. The road will reopen before 6am.

There will be temporary road closures, which will be kept to a minimum. The work is dependent on the weather. It will be carried out at no cost to the County Council.
