Take part in our new website survey

We are asking customers to help us test our new website and would value your opinions.

Background

The website was last redeveloped in 2013. At that time, the website had a large number of pages, which were quite busy with lots of text, downloads and links. We removed a lot of the information that cluttered the site and made it easier to understand by rewriting the much of the wording. Now we want to build on this and make the website even simpler to use, so  you can find information you need more quickly.

Previously, our website users have told us what they want to following:

  • to be able to read our website in plain English and not be faced with council jargon;
  • to find information through the search easily and with as few clicks as possible;
  • to be able to access the site on a wide range of devices;
  • to be able to track where you are on the website; and
  • to have an uncluttered and clear visual representation.

What have we done so far?

We have completed work already based on our website statistics, user testing and feedback from our survey in June 2016, where we asked for your help with our design. From the survey, 163 users told us what you thought of the design options.  Some of the comments we received from the survey included:

  • I LOVE this design, it's more unique than any other Local Authority 'standard' design website and it captures the ethos of North Yorkshire. It's the most engaging.
  • I really like this design. The pictures add interest, the boxes around the text links keep everything tidy.
  • I like that the most popular services are highlighted in images at the top and that attention is drawn to the self-service options next to them.

What's next?

We have produced a prototype of the new website based on the feedback we have received.  The prototype doesn't have all of the functionality of the final website and doesn't include any final text, but it helps us to test how the 'front end' of the new website might work and look; we'd like your help with this. We are asking our customers to view the prototype site and answer a few questions based on your experience (be aware that some links won't work and the website has dummy text!).  We are not testing the wording at this stage, simply how easy the website is to use. The survey should take around ten minutes.

There will be further updates here as we carry out development and testing over the coming months.
